In an April 24 blog post, Mike Kondoudis, an accredited intellectual property attorney, confirmed that English Premier League filed new trademark applications with United States Patents and Trademark Office related to crypto and NFTs on April 19, 2023.

Established in 1992, English Premier League is the highest English football league system level. The highly contested football league features 20 teams, including Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and more.

According to data submitted, English Premier League sought to trademark its “SUMMER SERIES” name and logo and used the term to launch virtual assets. The app has claimed plans to launch NFTs and a digital collectible marketplace.

The professional football league has claimed a plan to launch downloadable virtual assets, including computer programs featuring footwear, clothing, headwear, sportswear, football shirts, eyewear, bags, toys, and more. These virtual assets will be compatible with various virtual worlds.

English Premier League has showcased intentions to offer virtual services, including providing an online market platform for buyers and sellers of crypto collectibles, offering an online marketplace for NFTs, and operating an online market platform offering both crypto and NFTs.

English Premier League Crypto And NFT Push

It’s not the first time English Premier League has showcased an interest in launching its own NFTs. In June 2022, the professional football league filed two trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to launch NFTs, crypto, and digital collectibles.

Earlier this year, The English Premier League struck a multi-million-pound deal with Sorare, the blockchain-based fantasy sports game, to launch non-fungible tokens, among other virtual assets. The partnership allowed users to collect and trade digital cards representing players from all 20 English top-tier teams and use them in the Sorare fantasy football game.
